Alert Cooldown Explained
Alert cooldown prevents Blimey from sending you too many notifications in a short period.
What is cooldown?
If your store is flapping (going up and down repeatedly), you could receive a flood of emails. Cooldown ensures there's a minimum gap between alert emails.
How it works
After Blimey sends you an uptime alert email, it won't send another one until the cooldown period has elapsed. This applies regardless of what happens during the cooldown window.
Configurable options
You can set the cooldown period from the Settings page. Available options:
- 1 minute — Very responsive, but you may get more emails
- 5 minutes — Good balance for most stores (default)
- 15 minutes — Fewer notifications, suitable for non-critical monitoring
- 30 minutes — Reduced alerts
- 1 hour — Minimal notifications, only for the most significant events
Choosing the right cooldown
- If you need to respond to outages immediately, use a shorter cooldown
- If you find you're getting too many emails, increase the cooldown
- For stores with known intermittent issues, a longer cooldown helps reduce noise
Good to know
- Cooldown applies per shop, not per domain
- Cooldown only affects email notifications — checks and incident tracking continue regardless
- The cooldown timer starts when an alert is sent, not when an incident is detected
