Downtime Alert Delay

Downtime Alert Delay

The downtime alert delay lets you avoid receiving alerts for very brief outages that resolve on their own.

What is alert delay?

When your store goes down, Blimey can wait a configurable amount of time before sending you an alert. If your store comes back online within the delay period, no alert is sent at all.

Why use a delay?

Brief outages (a few seconds to a couple of minutes) can happen due to:

  • Temporary network issues
  • Server restarts or deployments
  • Brief Shopify platform hiccups

These often resolve on their own without any action needed. A delay prevents you from being woken up or distracted by issues that fix themselves.

Configurable options

Set the delay from the Settings page:

  • 0 minutes — Immediate alerts (no delay)
  • 1 minute — Skip very brief blips
  • 2 minutes — Skip short outages
  • 5 minutes — Only alert for sustained outages (recommended)
  • 10 minutes — Only alert for significant, prolonged outages

How it works

  1. Blimey detects your store is down and creates an incident
  2. Instead of emailing immediately, it waits for the delay period
  3. If your store recovers before the delay expires → no email sent
  4. If your store is still down after the delay → alert email sent

Good to know

  • The incident is still created and tracked regardless of the delay
  • The delay only affects the initial downtime notification
  • If no initial alert was sent (store recovered within delay), no recovery email is sent either
